WHAT: Briefing on "Nuclear
Weapons Reform: Agenda for the Next Administration" based on aDepartment of Energy (DOE) Radioactive Report Card compiled by
leaders of groups from communities located in the shadows of U.S. nuclear
weapons sites.

Nuclear Accountability, Santa Fe, NM, a national network of organizations
representing the concerns of families living downstream from DOE nuclear
research, testing, production and waste disposal facilities
- Marylia Kelley– Executive
Director, Tri-Valley CARES (Communities Against a Radioactive Environment),
Livermore, CA, an expert on DOE’s “Complex Transformation” proposal andmoney for new weapons hidden in DOE's budget, particularly the impacts on
the Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos Labs.
- Gerald Pollet, J.D.– Executive
Director, Heart of America Northwest, Seattle, WA, who has analyzed how DOE’s cleanup
budget shortfalls will fail to fulfill legal agreements and damage
the environment at Hanford and other heavily
contaminated sites
WHY: Scores of activists from
across the nation will present their concerns about U.S. nuclear weapons
policies in dozens of meetings with leaders of Congress and the Administration
from April 14 - 16 as part of ANA's 20th Annual DC Days. Other DOE sites
represented include Idaho National Lab, Sandia Lab, Savannah
River, Rocky Flats and the Waste Isolation Pilot
Plant.

Note also:
On Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00pm, ANA will host an Awards
Reception honoring leaders in the movement for more responsible U.S.
nuclear policies. Awardees include Sen. Byron Dorgan, Sen. Diane
Feinstein, Rep. David Hobson, Rep. Peter Visclosky,
Institute for Policy Studies analyst Robert Alvarez and Natural Resources
Defense Council nuclear program director Christopher Paine. The event
will take place in Room B-340 of the Rayburn House Office
Building.
